Last month I attended one of the COPA meetings in Oshawa and met Kent Scherm. Kent is also building an RV-8 and has been at the project off and on since 2001.
I went over to Kent's place last evening and had a look at his work so far..it was great to see! It's also nice to have someone so close that has been there and done it already. Kent just had his fuselage kit delivered a couple of weeks back. He certainly will be a wealth of information for me and to boot, he's also an engineer.
In just that one visit, I learned quite a bit! I'll be replacing every AN bolt in the kit with the a shank drilled AN bolt to receive a cotter pin. In Canada, every bolt that rotates is required to have a cotter pin in it...good to know now that I only installed 4 bolts.
Looking forward to helping him out when he needs the extra hand and vice versa! I was lucky to get out of his workshop with my new pneumatic squeezer!
